About the Youth Concert Band of Atlanta

The 2006-07 school year will be the inaugural season for the Youth Concert Band of Atlanta. Founded by Ed Davis and Valerie Morgan, the ensemble will perform literature that is both challenging and fulfilling for the musically advanced student in grades 7-9.

The purpose of the Youth Concert Band of Atlanta is to contribute to the musical education of its members and to provide performance opportunities beyond school ensembles to band students exhibiting exceptional talent and ability. It seeks to offer its members social interaction with other outstanding young musicians and to present concerts for family, friends and community.

The Youth Concert Band of Atlanta will perform three or four concerts in its first year. It will be comprised of approximately 65 students who play standard woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Membership will be open to students from throughout the state who are willing to meet the rehearsal and concert commitments. Students must be enrolled in their school music programs or be home schooled. Selection will be through competitive audition.
